Getting Started With Zoom Singing Lessons

Congratulations on taking the plunge!

I’m looking forward to making music with you.

General tips to get the most out of online singing lessons

  • best to connect using a laptop or PC

  • try to position the camera so that I have a view of you from the waist up whilst standing. To give you the most feedback, it’s important that I can get a good view of how your breathing is working.

  • You’ll need to play back accompaniment tracks from your end so you can hear it best.

  • If you can organise some speakers or have a second device handy to play the accompaniment, that would be great. Bluetooth speakers work well for this.

  • You can also email me sheet music in advance to have a look at if you need.

Optimising audio on Zoom

  1. To set up the audio, open Zoom and select settings (cog in top right-hand corner).

2. Select ‘Audio’ from list on left-hand side, then uncheck the box that says ‘Automatically adjust microphone volume’ and turn ‘Input Volume’ all the way up to maximum. Turn on ‘original sound for musicians’ and check 'High-fidelity music mode’ and ‘Echo-cancellation’.

3. After you join the Zoom call, click on ‘Original Sound for Musicians’ in top left-hand corner. and toggle it to ‘On’.

And now we’re done! Now the fun can start.
